The term "mental illness" is used to describe a variety of psychiatric disabilities, including depression, schizophrenia, manic depression, and panic/anxiety disorders, to name a few. Like most illnesses, mental illnesses have intertwined biological, psychological and environmental roots. Mental illnesses can affect Anyone. Persons at all levels of functioning and intelligence may experience mental illnesses. They affect the poor and the rich, the young and the old, people from every race, every background. They strike our sons, our daughters, our mothers, our fathers. Mental illnesses are as prevalent as other medical illnesses, and constitute a major public health problem. Yet, these are the illnesses no one wants to talk about. At some point in life, most of us experience periods of stress which affect us mentally and emotionally.  We are here to help!

Adult Services


The Adult Team is made up of mental health professionals, interns, case managers, alcohol treatment specialists and peer support specialists.  To be informed providers, the Adult Team has been trained and certified in substance counseling.  We offer a trauma informed-clinically driven intensive Outpatient Program that is delivered in group format to our clients.  These groups include domestic Violence/Anger Management-Court Mandated 12 weeks, Domestic Violence/Anger Management, Intensive Substance Counseling 12 weeks, Cognitive processing for Trauma, Parenting, Family, Vocational Skills, SMI/OBS Memory Activities, and Substance Abuse Workshops.  The services provided by the Adult Team include individual counseling, group skills and counseling, personal care, out of home placement management, psycho-education, recovery support, vocational skills, crisis and triage, assessment for level of care, detoxification needs, Serious Mentally ill, Organic Brain Syndrome, Traumatic Brain Injury, SSI payee services and case management.  We are happy to coordinate care with Tribal Court, legal systems, schools, Indian Health Services Hospital Primary Care Providers, pain management, substance use, psychiatry and neurology.

The Adult Team offers crisis assessments, substance and mental health assessments, Individual, and group counselling in both mental health and substance use by highly trained professionals.  ABHS Adult Team offers comprehensive care, referrals, psychiatric referral, out of home placement and management, financial payee services, serious mental illness, organic brain syndrome, personal care, skills training and development, and works closely with Tribal court, detention, Indian Health Services, social services, child and elderly protective services, and Arizona behavioral treatment facilities.
